I moved to Ironville about 6 years ago and love walking the area and volunteering for the Cromford Canal and Codnor Park Res group. I started attending parish council meetings as a representative of the group, and when the opportunity to stand as a councillor came up I decided to give it a go. After 11 years working in a prison I thought I had done my sentence and now work as a parish council clerk, so see the work the Council is involved in from both sides!
My view as a Councillor is very much that party politics should not come into parish level business so I stood as an independent candidate. I believe in supporting community action to address local issues and I’m really pleased that the council is now more involved than it used to be, for example by the appointment of our Parish Warden.
